Reflections from ‘Be the Change’ 2024

Our 2024 ‘Be the Change’ Youth Training Program was our best yet! We had 37 incredible youth attendees from 17 states, eight youth co-led presentations, and 14 total youth presenters. Students engaged with workshops on the importance of social media in marketing school-based health services and innovations in school-based food insecurity programming, talked with adult providers about beating mental health stigma, and provided guidance for effective youth-adult partnerships. Most importantly, youth experienced the power of connecting with and learning from their passionate peers nationwide.

“I wanted to express my thanks for the incredible experience I had at the SBHA “Be The Change” Youth Program. The program was truly enriching and inspiring, and I gained invaluable insights from peers across the country. From the diverse range of workshops to the delicious meals provided, every aspect of the program exceeded my expectations.” – 2024 Youth Attendee

“Thank you once again for organizing such a meaningful and impactful event. I look forward to applying what I’ve learned and staying connected with the SBHA community.” – 2024 Youth Attendee

We are proud to say the overall 2024 School-Based Health Alliance conference demonstrated a commitment to listening to youth ideas, perspectives, and voices. Two of our Youth Advisory Council members who are members of the School-Based Health Alliance Board, Joey Kaji and Justin Wang, served as opening keynote speakers and emphasized the role of students in the school-based health field. We hosted a networking event for youth to connect with those in the field. This year’s conference featured many workshops co-facilitated by youth leaders and highlighted topics related to youth development in school-based health care. These steps serve as a testament to the power of youth and their ability to shape the future of our field.
